Understanding You Scoring Trends
Understanding your trends can help you make better decisions
Golf is wonderfully simple yet so nuanced at the same time. It’s the beautiful juxtaposition of so many variables hitting you at once while trying to accomplish the simple task of getting a small ball into a hole.
The Scoring Section of the TUGR Analytics platform is meant to simplify your game into very understandable and easy-to-read charts. Once you get familiar with this section, you’ll be able to easily identify the strengths and weaknesses of your game. For example, you can see:
Scoring Trends by Hole Type: How do you score on Par 3s, 4s, and 5s? Not only do we breakdown this data, we show your trends going back 2 years so you can track your progress. And with virtually every other chart in the system, you can change the benchmark to see how you compare to your peers.
Scoring Average: It might be simple, but being able to see your scoring average for the past 2 years can help you keep the big picture at the forefront of your mind to track your progress.
Off The Tee - Driving Efficiency: By doing a little math, we can triangulate your Driving Efficiency and pinpoint exactly how many shots you gain/lose off the tee.
Course Length Played: Are you playing long enough courses relative to your skill level, grade, or ranking? We can show you this data to make sure you’re making the right decisions on what tees to play.
The Otter Creek Championship
We continue to highlight the opportunity provided by The Otter Creek Championship with their efforts to grow the game and give opportunities’ to qualify for their event. This LPGA Epson Tour event will hold a qualifier to give female amateur and professionals the chance to gain an exemption into the main event.

Learning From The Best
I played in our State Match Play Qualifier on Monday. One of my playing partners and his caddie are on the #1 ranked Division II men’s golf team in the country. It was fun to interact with them and get their insights into college golf.
At one point we started talking stats/analytics and it was awesome to see how well-versed they were in golf data analytics. We talked about the importance of bogey/double-bogey avoidance and how strokes-gained approach is the most predictive strokes-gained category of success. It was clear they knew their numbers and translated it to their game. It gave me a smile knowing the BEST college teams in the country take data analytics seriously and apply them to their strategy.
