Trust but verify!
At TUGR, we're all about publishing as much data so you can verify the outputs.
Trust but verify
Institutions in every walk of life often publish “proof” to give credence to whatever thing they are publishing. For example:
Financial institutions often post “proof of reserves” so you know that they haven’t simply taken your money and spent it.
Flying on an airplane requires “proof of identity” to verify you are who you say you are.
Law enforcement generally must show “proof of authority” to access certain restricted areas.
At TUGR, we take the “proof of…” approach to heart so you can trust the information we are publishing. We want everyone to trust, but we give you the tools to verify!
Proof of Ranking
A question we’re often asked when we speak with coaches, players, and parents is, “Why am I ranked [in a specific spot]?”
Early on in our TUGR journey, we would give the boring math answer. After a few times doing that, we realized there is a better approach! We then created what we’ve called the “scatter plot”, but really it’s our “proof of ranking” chart that is published for all ~15,000 ranked juniors.
See below. This chart is found in the Overview Section of every player profile. Each dot represents an opponent played. If it’s above the line, it means you successfully beat them, while below the line means you lost to them. The X-axis is your opponent’s ranking and the Y-axis is the Relative Strokes (think stroke differential) for each opponent relationship.
The beauty of this chart is that your ranking is easily digestible because we can illustrate that the opponents you generally lose to (dots below the line) are ranked better than you, and the opponents who you beat (dots above the line) are ranked worse than you. Proof of Ranking.
Scoring Progression Chart
Another great illustrative chart is the “Progression Chart” found for each Tournament.
It’s often hard during an event to understand where you stood relative to your peers on the leaderboard at any give point in the round. With the Scoring Progression chart, you can do a ‘post-game analysis’ to see how the tournament unfolded.
Find this chart by going to Jr Rankings and then in the top left, flip from Rankings to Tournaments. Find your desired tournament and then click on Tournament Stats to see a variety of charts and information for the event.
Another useful chart in the Tournaments database is the Hole-by-Hole Scoring Distribution. Use this information to gameplan for an upcoming event. For example, a recent junior event was held at Streamsong (Black Course). If you have a tournament at Streamsong in the future, you can gain a HUGE advantage over your competition by simply creating a hole-by-hole gameplan using this information. Know which holes are worth playing aggressive and which holes are worth holding back.
Giving you the tools
One of our goals at TUGR is to give you the tools to make better decisions, shoot lower scores, and simply have a great time playing golf. We publish hundreds of data points on every player. If you don’t know where to start, use our AI “CaddieBot” in the bottom right corner to help you know how to improve.
TUGR has proven to be the most accurate and predictive ranking system in junior golf. Check out our site to see where you rank!
