Think Different

In 1997, Steve Jobs rolled out the famous two-word marketing campaign slogan for Apple that ran on most commercials for more than five years. The slogan: Think Different!

The entire campaign was built around honoring the “crazy ones”, the “misfits” and those who felt like they were the “round pegs in a square hole.” With images of Albert Einstein, John Lennon, and Gandhi on the screen, Apple paid tribute those who pushed the status quo of their time, and moved the world forward through innovation, in whatever sphere they operated.

Think of modern-day “crazy ones” who changed the status quo.

  • James Holzhauer won $2.5 million on Jeopardy in just 33 appearances. Instead of systematically working through each category, as had been done for decades on the show, James hunted Daily Doubles, bet it all, and became an all-time Jeopardy champ because he innovated and changed the status quo.

  • The Philadelphia Eagles ran the “Philly Special” in Super Bowl 52 to grab all the momentum heading into halftime. In a game where you rarely see trick plays, the Eagles changed the status quo that led to their victory.

  • Bryson DeChambeau continues to push the envelope in all aspects of golf. Always considered a misfit among his peers, he now owns 2 U.S. Opens and one of the largest social media followings, simply because he wasn’t afraid to change the status quo and think different!

Think Different, Innovate, and Improve

TUGR was built to help you think different, innovate, and improve. When utilized to its fullest extent, the TUGR platform can be the tool in your toolbox that takes you to the next level. Below are a few tools that can help you as you kick off your 2025 season:

  • Scoring Average by State: Do you play a national schedule? Why not play to your strengths and build out a schedule on courses and in states where you play best? Under the Tournaments tab, you can see your stroke average by state to see how your game travels. Coming soon will be a Tournaments Prep section where we’ll be able to give you a game plan for courses you play and perhaps in the future even suggest a schedule that would maximize your success.

  • Dealing With Adversity: How do you deal with adversity on the course? Does bad weather affect you worse than your peers? What about your ability to bounce-back after a bogey? All of this information can be found in the Insights and Weather sections of the platform. Perhaps taking your game to the next level is less about pounding balls on the range, and more about getting your mind right when things go sideways on the course.

  • Hole Type Analysis: Is there a different way to look at your game to get better insights? Most modern day analytics break down a player’s game by shot-type. This is good, but what if you could understand your trends by hole-type? Is that perhaps a different angle that could help you make a break-through? Do you do better on Par 3’s or Par 5’s? What about long par 4’s compared to short Par 3’s? All of this info can be found in the Scoring section to help you understand where to focus your practice to make the largest impact on your game.

Our mission is to help fuel better decisions, lower scores, and epic days on the golf course. We couldn’t be more excited for 2025 as we have a backlog of new tools and features that we’ll be rolling out over the coming months.

If you are one of the many coaches from the 21+ different NCAA conferences who use the TUGR Recruiting Tools, stay tuned for more ways to better identify juniors who could be a good fit for our program.

If you are one of the many parents and players who use the Analytics Platform, stay tuned as we continue to build out more tools and insights. As we’ve recently teased, we expect the coming Tournaments and Course prep section of the platform to be a popular tool that will be used each week.

Just like Apple from 25 years ago, find ways to think different and take your game to the next level.
