Introducing Pro Benchmarks
Compare yourself to the pros using our pro benchmark feature
Pro Benchmarks
The Universal Golf Rankings was originally created as a professional golf ranking system to bring an unbiased lens to men’s professional golf. As we migrated into junior golf rankings, we simultaneously set out to develop a turnkey analytics platform to help coaches, parents and players know where to focus for improvement. One aspect of this platform that has been wildly popular is the benchmarking feature, where players can compare their stats against those of their peers, across a variety of different metrics.
This feature has grown over multiple iterations. First, we let you compare yourself to the broad junior golf population. Second, we developed “Grad Class” benchmarks so you could easily isolate and compare yourself to others in your grade. Months ago, as we sifted through years of professional data that is at our fingertips, we began connecting the pipes behind the scenes to allow juniors to compare themselves to the pros in an apples-to-apples manner.
Today, we are excited to introduce Pro Benchmarks for junior boys and girls. Compare yourself to the Top-100 or Top-25 professionals to see how your game stacks up. This feature will keep getting better as we backfill the data so you can look back multiple years to track your progress.
Example
Let’s take a look at an example of how you can use this benchmarking tool.
Below are two pictures taken of a Top-25 Junior Boy. Let’s compare his “Relative Strokes off the Tee”, or in other words, whether he gains/loses shots to the field off the tee to both juniors and pros. This graph is found on the Scoring section of the analytics platform.
In the first chart we compare him to the best juniors (highlighted in yellow), while the second chart compares him to the best pros (highlighted in blue). You can see as one of the top juniors in the country, he gains just over a half shot per round off the tee (-0.66 shots per round) compared to his peers, but in an apples-to-apple comparison, loses about a half shot per round (+0.56 per round) compared to the best pros.
Interesting data for this young man as he looks toward the next level.

At TUGR, we want to be able to easily show you where you stack up against anyone, whether we’re talking rankings, analytics, or aspects of recruiting.
We answer the question: “Am I on track?”
We answer the question: “Is my game good enough to play at the next level?”

We received an abundance of requests last week to add events into the system. We love this because our approach allows us to rank any event. We got through most of them, but in case one was missed, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Our mission is to fuel better decisions, lower scores, and epic days on the golf course. Reach out with any questions.
Thanks,
Jeff
