Big Win Over the Weekend and Answering Your Questions

Over the weekend, TUGR's accuracy was on display as we randomly picked an event to see which system was most predictive.

Accurate & Reliable

Throughout the year, we will randomly pick a junior event to test “rankings accuracy.” In our business, it’s all about accuracy and reliability. One of the many different ways we measure accuracy is by comparing the difference between pre-tournament field ranks, to the final leaderboard of an event, for participating players.

In other words, we want to see how close a ranking system predicted the final leaderboard based on where the players ranked before the start of the event. Since every ranking system has players ranked differently, it becomes a worthy exercise to see which system is most predictive.

This past week we picked a random Hurricane Junior Tour Event to test. This event had juniors that were ranked from under 1,000th to over 10,000th. It was a big spread, which makes testing accuracy all the more important (and difficult). It’s one thing to be able to figure out who ranks in the Top-100, but it’s an entirely different feat to accurately rank those in the middle of the pack.

We were (again) pleased to see that TUGR rankings posted the most accurate results compared to the other systems. This continues the trend we’ve seen since 2023 when we first started testing the accuracy of professional events.

In fact, it was our most accurate event that we’ve ever tested. The median participant finished within 6 places of their pre-tournament field rank. 6 places! That means, on average, if a player was ranked 13th in the field heading into the event, when the tournament was completed, their final finish place was within 6 places of 13th! Pretty accurate!

FAQ

We recently revamped our FAQ page as we continue to grow and get weekly questions from our users. Here is a quick sampling of what you’ll find:

  • What type of methodology does TUGR use?

  • How far back and what events qualify to be ranked?

  • How is TUGR different from other junior ranking systems?

  • How do WDs affect my ranking?

  • How can I improve my ranking?

  • Should I skip winter tournaments?

TUGR is akin to a GPS. Most junior golfers have hundreds of “satellites” pinpointing their exact position in the rankings. Considering a GPS only needs 4 satellites to pinpoint your EXACT position on earth, having hundreds of “satellites” for each golfer makes it all the more precise.

Our mission is to help you win by fueling better decisions, lower scores, and epic days on the golf course.
